In a meeting held yesterday, key government officials, including Youth Fund CEO Josiah Moriasi, Principal Secretary for Labour Shadrack Mwadime, and Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua, explored a partnership to facilitate financial assistance for eligible youth. Under the initiative dubbed Kazi Maju, the Youth Fund will provide migration loans of up to Ksh 300,000 to help cover essential pre-travel expenses such as visa fees, airfare, and other necessary costs.
Dr. Mutua emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment through strategic partnerships and innovative financial solutions. He highlighted that Kazi Maju is part of a broader effort to enhance labour mobility and ensure Kenyan youth can compete in the global job market without financial constraints. He further assured that his ministry will continue negotiating for more job opportunities abroad while streamlining the migration process to make it more accessible and efficient for Kenyan job seekers.
This initiative comes in response to a growing challenge where thousands of job opportunities abroad remain unfilled due to financial constraints among qualified candidates. The government has worked tirelessly to secure international employment opportunities, particularly in countries like the UAE, but many deserving individuals are unable to take up these jobs due to a lack of funds. Kazi Maju aims to bridge this gap and ensure that young Kenyans can access life-changing opportunities without financial hindrances.
CEO Josiah Moriasi reaffirmed the Youth Fund’s commitment to promoting labour mobility by eliminating financial obstacles that prevent Kenyan youth from working abroad. He highlighted that in the current financial year alone, the Fund has disbursed Ksh 94 million, benefiting 422 youth who have since taken up jobs overseas.
The initiative is a significant step in empowering young people by providing them with access to well-paying global job opportunities. By facilitating their transition into international employment, the program not only improves individual livelihoods but also strengthens Kenya’s economic prospects through remittances and skill development.
As the government continues to implement youth empowerment strategies, Kazi Maju stands out as a game-changer in ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder ambitious young Kenyans from pursuing their dreams abroad.
